"The Earth is degenerating these days. Bribery and corruption abound. Children no longer mind their parents, every man wants to write a book, and it is evident that the end of the world is fast approaching."*

I think this quote demonstrates the feeling that society frequently has about new things, that they are going to degenerate society. There is a tendency to see only the bad and not the good (or to forget that the bad can happen other ways; for example, while many video games are violent, children can easily act violently or witness violence in other ways)

On the other hand, I've also seen a techno-mania surrounding new technology-people think that it is the best and only way to do things (Mr. Steele-Maley, anybody?) and despise the printed word.

I think the key is moderation-remember, people used to think telephones and automobiles heralded the end of the world.
